Filipino American History Month 2016

The Louisiana Filipino American community organizations in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate Generals in Chicago and Hawaii will be hosting three events for Filipino American History Month:

  1. Filipino American History Symposium at Xavier University,
  2. Gala at the New Orleans Airport Hilton,
  3. Trip to Jean Lafitte to view the Manila Village historical marker and meet descendants of the early Filipino migrants who settled in the area in the 19th and 20th century.

The U.S. Congress, upon passage of House Resolution No. 780 and Senate Resolution No. 298 in November 2009, officially recognized October as Filipino American History Month in the United States. This years events are designed to shed light on the origins, evolution, and current developments of Filipino migration to the U.S. <excerpted from Robert Romero’s sponsorship letter.>
